Here are some Photos from this year’s festival!

I’m sure I’ll be posting more! These images were taken by my friend Sloane, so grateful for her help on Saturday, particularly in the early morning. :)

Weather for the show was just perfect, and a great time was had by ALL. Must say a HUGE thank you to Valerie and the other Bellefonte Arts organizers for making the day so great!

Bellefonte festival blossoms into gallery!
Annual block party celebrates the arts

What: Bellefonte Arts Festival
When: 10 am.-6 p.m. May 19. Rain date is May 20.
Admission: Free
Information: 762-4278 or www.bellefontearts.com

Four years ago, Bellefonte Arts owner Valerie White was chatting with Bellefonte Cafe owner Donna Rego. White had been sponsoring monthly poetry readings at the cafe, and Rego mentioned how she’d like to have a block party with music and art exhibits.

White pointed out Rego had a lot of contacts with artists because Rego rotated exhibits monthly in the restaurant. The women contacted the artists, and the Bellefonte Arts Festival was born.

A spring affair that takes up the block the cafe sits on, its fourth edition arrives May 19, running from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Rain date is May 20.

This year, though, the festival also will occur at the six-month anniversary of the gallery at 803 Brandywine Blvd. that White opened after she met all the artists through the festival.

Her trendy, eclectic store caters to those looking for the fresh and perhaps whimsical in photography, jewelry, water colors, mixed media, raku, hand-blown glass and cards. She has purses made of coffee bean bags and metal bells made from reused oxygen canisters.

“I’m not going to say it’s fine art, although some of it is,” White says. “It’s a little more visceral.”

The gallery opened with 20 artists. Now there’s 63 exhibiting, including Lisa Joy Goodman, of North Wilmington, whose jewelry is on exhibit there now.

“I’m actually a professional photographer by trade, so I have my photography here,” she says. “But I’ve been working on metal smithing the last few years, so I have a whole jewelry exhibit with one-of-a-kind pieces.”

Goodman said she’s been beading since she was a kid and finally decided to take a metal working class at the Delaware Art Museum “because I wanted to torch things and cut them.”

She heard about Bellefonte Arts from some of her artist friends.

“I came in and said, ‘Oh, my gosh. This is just a fun space,’ ” Goodman says.

Twenty artists are on a waiting list for space.

“I only have a few artists who haven’t sold anything, but everyone else has sold fairly well,” White says. And that, she says, “is not a bad position to be in.”

There’s a full restock of poster prints at the Welcome Center off Interstate 95 near Newark DE.

And, of course, Bellefonte Arts off Brandywine Blvd in Wilmington, DE. has a wonderful stock of prints and originals always available!

In May, the Arts Fairs begin. Dewey Beach Arts Fest on May 12, and the Bellefonte Arts Festival on May 19, just for starters.

Lastly, look for a new collection in April, on the table are a hen, a sheep and a cow. No spoilers, though!

Look for the new Website launch in the upcoming months!
